So many shoes

So, I've just moved to Rotterdam and it's a very cool city, ice cream capital of Holland doncha know. But it also seems to have a lot of shoe shops, and I mean a *lot* and I can't fathom why. It's not like Milan or anything, they're variations of regular high street stores but there's like a billion of them! As I said I haven't been here long so I don't know if this is a Dutch thing or just a Rotterdam thing, but it bemuses me to say the least.
